Before lighting, place the candle away from drafts and sunlight. Cut the wicks regularly: they should not exceed 0.6 cm to avoid black smoke and soot build-up on the edges. Keep melted wax away from matches and other foreign objects. It can pose a fire hazard and darken the candle. Burn the cotton wicks with paper pieces in the middle. Extinguish the wicks one hour after lighting. You can light the extinguished wicks again after an hour.
